A Weekend with the Kent's

Saturday afternoon we headed to Troy to attend a fundraising event for CURED, which raises money for research to help find a cure for Eosinophilic Disease.  The event raised $17,000 and we had a great time.  Instead of driving back home we had made arrangements to stay with the Kent's and we had a wonderful time.  The weather on Sunday was amazing and we spent the day relaxing on the lake and then had an fabulous dinner before we headed home.

A Day in the Kitchen

As I walked into the kitchen this morning, I noticed I had a watermelon that needed to be cut up, strawberries that needed to be made into something, and over ripe banana's.  Needless to say I spent the morning working in the kitchen.  It felt great to have everything done and Nash had fun helping out.

 Monster Cookies for the weekend.

Strawberry fruit roll-up as requested by Avry.
 Safe Banana Bread for Nash.

Mother's Day

I was greeted by the morning sunshine on this Mother's Day. I think it is the first time in the past six years that it has not rained.  Besides the morning sun, I was able to sleep in, while Alex, Avry & Nash ran out to the store to get the breakfast of champs, a doughnut and diet coke.  They also returned with some gerber daisies and cards.  After a lazy morning, we headed to a nearby park and enjoyed the afternoon there.  I cooked out burgers and ended the night with ice cream.  It was a great relaxing day with Avry, Nash & Alex.

 We love you mama!

Mother's Day Tea

Today the kindergarten class hosted a Mother's Day Tea Party.  The dad's and kids were in charge of making sure there was plenty of yummy treats to eat.  The children had drawn pictures, prepared songs and a message on why they loved their mom.   The afternoon was filled with friends, smiles and a few tears.

Food Dehydrator Experiment

A few weeks ago I borrowed a food dehydrator from one of my friends. Yesterday I finally made the time to pull it out and try a few foods in there for Nash.  Much to my surprise everything turned out and tasted great.  Nash was also very excited with the end foods.  We did the basic drying of fruit, which were apples and bananas.  Then I also made fruit leather as it is called in Michigan or fruit roll-ups as it is called in Minnesota, or as Nash calls it apple tape.  Whatever name you call it, it was yummy and Avry requested some strawberry tape. That will be my next experiment.

We started by washing, peeling and cutting up the apples.
 4 Cups of apples.
Eating apples as fast as I could cut them.
 Mashing the apples.
 We didn't want any lumps.
 It's ready for the dehydrator.
 Apples
 Bananas
 Cooking a very long time.
 Dried bananas and apples
 Fruit tape
The taste tester.  The results was "super yummy mom!"
I put them into small pieces and rolled them in scran wrap.
